We flee to warmer climes for the Christmas break, on a 11-day road trip around Florida, hoping to rid ourselves of our programmer’s tan.
We did the Shark Valley Tram tour because we arrived too late to hire bicycles to tour the route ourselves. We encountered more alligators, birds and butterflies.
Back to Sanibel Island for more shells!
We drove to John Pennekamp State Park for a look, and then headed onwards to Key West for dinner.

Our first taste of shell collecting at Sanibel Island … then onwards to South Beach, Miami.
We visit the inspring Kennedy Space Centre at Cape Canaveral, joined the tour and tried out the Shuttle Launch Experience.
Tasty food but expensive (and allergy-inducing) drinks at the Hub Baja Grill. Good if you like "lively atmosphere".
We swim with Manatees! Then off to Siesta Keys (voted the best beach in the US) via Tarpon Springs for some sponges.
A cafe/store with a large mouthwatering selection of Empanadas, pastries, cakes and other goodies!
