Day 5: Moving onwards from Siesta Keys to Miami
Our days on the Gulf Coast has come to an end … :(
We checked out right on time after repacking everything and set off towards Miami, hoping to stop along interesting places along the coast.
Our first stop was Turtle Beach nearby — looks like we should be coming back for the turtle hatching season!
There was a section about shelling in my travel guide, and it happened to mention that there were a few excellent beaches for shelling at Sanibel Island. So we made a detour to check it out …
The first beach we found (near the lighthouse) had more people than shells, and did not look promising at all. So we moved on to Bowman’s Beach, which was teaming with life … and shells!
We’d never seen so many shells on a beach before, and there were other people looking for them as well. We managed to find only a few nice specimens, and ogled jealously at other shellseekers’ collection, which were larger in size and greater in number than ours.
There were lots of birds about too — I enjoyed looking at these little guys, who were following the waves as they retreated, busily digging for little clams, worms, etc in the softened sand …
Then quickly scurrying back as they waves came crashing back to shore.
It was a hot day and we were getting sunburnt but having too much fun looking for shells. Unfortunately we had to leave so that we could arrive at our accommodation in Miami by 6pm.
We arrived at Chic Place at Lincoln and "checked in" — this apartment was very conveniently located next to Lincoln Road at South Beach and was nicely decorated … definitely more spacious than our London flat!
We had a TV above our bed, which we thought was pretty cool initially … until we tried to watch it at night … the brightness was tuned too high tho and we started to get a headache …
We even had a kitchen to cook in if we ever got sick of eating out …
Later that night, we wandered down Lincoln Road in search of food and after walking past several establishments, we decided on 5 Napkin Burger.
