After brekky at the hotel, we caught the ferry to Murano.

The ferry ride was fun, and gave us a different perspective of Venice — from the water instead of from the streets. It also gave our feet some well-earned rest — going up and down bridges were pretty tiring, after about 10 bridge crossings!

We managed to get some interesting, not-so-touristy views of Venice:

Along the way we went past San Michelle, an island cemetary.

Not long after, we arrive at Murano, an island known for glass blowing. We walked past some tourist-trap-ish shops, past some promising shops (that we vowed to return to on our way home), past a strange looking glass sculpture …

.. past a museum we wished we had time to visit, and into a church that supposedly had dragon bones in it … but they were nowhere to be found!

We hurried on in search of glass blowing demonstrations, and a shopowner explained that there were fewer at this time of the year because it was low tourist season. But luckily we did manage to find one demonstration … and it was free! Unfortunately, lots of tourists appeared out of nowhere and my views were obstructed. Muffin managed to take a few shaky shots:

After that we were pretty hungry, and found a pizza joint on the island … and the pizzas were pretty good! We headed into the glass shops we found earlier, and we bought two glass ladybeetles.

We caught another ferry back to the main island, and saw some other vessels in the water that weren’t gondolas –

We arrived back in Venice, and went for a stroll in search for coffee and possibly dinner …

For dinner we found a pasta restaurant, got our pasta fix, and then bid our travelling companions goodbye as they caught the night sleeper train from Venice.
