How exciting! Today we left for our first leg of our 5 week holiday around the world. We would be living out of our green suitcases, and rotating through the same 6 changes of clothing for the next 5 weeks …

We booked a cab to bring us to the airport (Simply Airports) which was really good — for about £30 and they drive you from door to airport, which is a much relaxing way to travel. Problem is that they never send confirmation emails …

So we arrived at the shiny T5 at Heathrow with time to spare for our 1pm flight, so we had some coffee and sandwiches.

The flight wasn’t too bad, except the little boy sitting in the seat in front of me threw up soon after take-off … and I lost my appetite — tho not enough to turn town my inflight meal of chicken curry …

Nine and a half hours later (and a couple of movies later — we watched The Last Airbender, which was pretty bad; and Cemetary Junction, which was surprisingly good), we arrived in Vancouver at 2:30pm.

We caught a cab from the airport to our hotel, and we noticed a high proportion of Asians — we drove past many Chinese signs, Vietnamese restaurants, Filipino shops,  bubble tea shops, and saw posters of Asian politicians. Also our cab driver was Indian …

About half an hour later we arrived at our hotel, Coast Coal Harbour. We were too buggered to wander outside, so we just bummed around in our hotel room for the rest of the day (and veged out in front of the telly) and went to bed really early …
