We were due to fly out later today, so we drove to the Griffith Observatory for obligatory tourist photos of the Hollywood sign.

It was a hot day and there were many bees buzzing about so we didn’t hang around long … It was also too bright at we ended up squinting on all of the photos …

We decided to check out Santa Monica Pier as it was close to the airport, so we plodded about the beach and the pier. We were getting hungry so decided to eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

At Santa Monica Pier

There was a bit of a wait to dine at the restaurant so we killed some time in the Bubba Gump store until they called us. The nice waitress quized us on the movie, and took a picture for us.

We had to take an obligatory cheesy photo of the Forrest Gump seat before we left:

After lunch, we drove around the neighbourhood … Venice beach looked like there were lots of bums wandering about, so we didn’t bother looking …

There were lots of Asian shops around, and we remembered we needed to get supplies for folks back in Sydney so we drove around looking for a supermarket. We found one along the way to the airport, and bought some American peanut butter and other confectioneries.

We arrived at the airport really early, and had plenty of time to return the car, and ended up killing time outside the departure area.

Several hours later, we were onboard the Qantas A380 for our overnight flight to Sydney.
