We decided to head out of London (but still in the UK) for the first time in ages … so we headed to Kings Cross after work for our 19:30 East Coast train to Newcastle. I’d reserved snooty First Class tickets (of course) in a Quiet carriage, but when the train arrived, our designated carriage was missing! So after walking from one end of the train to another, we found another first class carriage and sat down in unassigned seats … (*grumble*)
So far, not too bad — the train trundled along quite smoothly, I said yes to every snack on offer (FOUR sandwiches for me, thanks!) however after a few stations, the engineer announced that the front locomotive wasn’t working so we continued the rest of the journey at reduced speed … being pushed along only by the rear locomotive …
This means we arrived about an hour late into Newcastle.
As soon as we stepped out of the train we were greeted by hordes of buck’s/hen night partygoers, in various stages of drunkedness. Or maybe they weren’t attending bucks/hens do … and this might just be a normal scene of nighttime drinking. Anyways, there we were in our puffy jackets and warm layerings, attempting to navigate the cold drizzly streets of Newcastle in the late of night (it was 9 degrees out, I might add), while these folks were in short sleeves or very mini skirts …
We finally made it to our lovely hotel, and once we’d been shown to our room, we proceeded to thaw ourselves out in the cast iron tub …

Our room was very spacious! We’ll have difficulty readjusting when we return to our tiny flat in London …

We tried to watch TV (because we don’t have a TV at home) and all we found was "Deep Impact" …
