We picked the most atmospheric place we could find to eat in Dorsoduro — Osteria Alla Bifora had a candlelit, wood-beamed and bricked interior, and everyone else were drinking wine and spritz, and eating platters of meat and cheese.

My spritz

Anchovies with olives

Serrano with peppers

Squid in ink, with polenta

Roast beef with rocket, strawberies and parmesan

Dessert!

We were seated at a rustic, wooden table, and they handed out our paper placemats and menu.

Our eyes grew large as we read the menu but alas … some of our choices were sold out already.

This was probably one of the most memorable meals in Venice — I’d never eaten anything like these dishes before, and they were absolutely delicious!

Apologies, as my photos do not do the dishes justice :(
