Parkroyal, Little India

Our flight arrived to Singapore in the evening, an hour late, and Muffin's uncle picked us up from the airport (even though
we
told them not to!). As soon as we stepped out of the airport we smothered in muggy, tropical, boggy air. We had dinner with
Muffin's
uncle and his family at a Mandarin Swimming Club. It was ok ... Later that night Muffin's uncle drove us thru Geylang and
giggled at
prostitutes.

Schlepping about Singapore

We were awake way too early. And the buffet breakfast wasn't opening til 6am ... so we waited then and spent more than an
hour
pigging out ...
When we ventured out it was a soggy, soggy day. My hideous and conspicuous yellow umbrella sufferred several blowouts and
I
plotted to abandon it somewhere ...
We walked everywhere ... from our hotel in Little India, into the 24 hour mall directly behind our hotel (Mustafa's ... to
change
money!), to Orchard Road, to Chinatown ... and I managed to get some blisters on my feet from the soggy shoes chafing ...
By the time we reached Orchard road it was still too early. We decided to eat to kill time and found a food store called ToastBox
that was open -- we had some Teh Tarik and Nasi Lemak to share.
We ducked in and out of several shopping centres until we found a food court. Alas we were too full to eat just yet so we
decided
to venture onwards ...

Muffin and the Merlion
Must be compulsory for every city to have one of these ...
The Durian
On the way to Chinatown, we found a glitzy shopping mall, but no one were in the shops ... and there was a little ice-skating
rink
with some sort of performance going on ...
We arrived at Chinatown, but the hawker centres looked too dodgy for my tastes ...
Chinatown
... So we decided to head back to Orchard Road where we found a food court earlier. We ate a rather unexciting chicken rice
and
laksa. Then it was back to ducking in and out of shopping centres again ...
Later that night we caught the cab to the Night Safari where we were driven around like lazy fatarses on a tram. The tourguide
spoke with a really bad faux American accent (with a Singaporean twang) and we did a speed tour of animals in the dark. None
of my
photos worked except maybe for this ...
Chinatown
The good thing about it having rained most of the day was that the mozzies kept away. So we came home from the Night Safari
unbitten. The Night Safari was pretty cool though (my fave was the rhino and the surreal sounds of lions roaring).
Hanging out with rellies

Again, we were awake way too early. And ate a large buffet breakfast! Then we went for a walk towards Kampong Gelam (and
everything was shut because it was the Muslim NY!).
We decided to head back to the hotel for a swim to work up an appetite (it wasn't raining for a change, and we were still
stuffed
from breakfast). We used to pool, the sauna, and ordered iced coffee. Then we met up with another uncle, and ate in a rather
unexciting corner cafe. My Harmee had liver and other innards in it. I wasn't impressed ...
Later on we went to Sentosa Island ... and went into the aquarium there, which was overrun with kids and people ...
Later that night we met up with Muffin's uncle again, and had dinner at the hawker centre.
Later that night (and for 3 days afterwards) Muffin was DISEASED. It was probably the dodgy satay sauce that did it -- one
dish
that I didn't eat that Muffin did!
