Brighton
Getting some rays in Brighton
We sauntered up to the ticket counter in Kentish Town, and purchased two adult return tickets to Brighton (£34 all up). With a cup of Mr Frothy coffee and some biscuits on hand, we endured a relaxing hour (or so) train ride to Brighton.
Nothing could prepare us for the surprisingly bright sun (well, we were prepared ... we brought sunglasses, tho no sunblock) -- I'm beginning to enjoy the British summers (tho I would normally need to stock up on antihistamine and tissues).
Loads of sun ...
... surf (maybe) ... but no sand ...
BRR!
I *LOVE* being on holidays when the rest of the country isn't :) Which means all the rides are desserted ...
After a spin on the Brighton Marina (which didn't seem exciting to me ... just lotsa carnies, some crummy food court, pokie machines, etc), we went into the Sea Life centre.
Unfortunately, there was a school excursion that had just gone in before us ... but since we take so long to check everything out, we didn't bump into the kids that much ...
Sea Life Centre
I would say the Brighton Sea Life centre would be one of my favorite aquariums, along with the London Aquarium. The decor is really cool ... and reminded me of "Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" minus the Casio keyboard music ...
Shark attack!
After the visual feast of cool underwater animals, we were hankering for fish and chips.
We found a fish and chip restaurant called Harry Ramsden's and ordered a Haddock and Cod fish and chip and garden peas. The batter was really good -- light and golden.
Filled to the gills, we decided to walk along the shore towards Brighton Marina ... past fishermen, surfers, kite-flyers, nude sunbathers ... a long wall of graffiti ... before Muffin noticed a notice about fishing ...
The breakwater was well constructed for the purpose of fishing, and we spotted two fishermen who effortlessly hauled up mackerel from the side ...
Muffin vowed he will be back ... with rods!
We decided it was time to head back, but first, we stopped by Carluccio's for a quick snack and some tea and coffee ...
